Springs & Suspension

Sunday, 23 July 2017 12:04:20 pm Australia/Sydney

A lot of people think that car suspension is just for creating a smooth ride, but did you know, it also has other important functions such as keeping your vehicle in control on the road and your passengers safe. The underside of your car is made up of a number of important mechanical parts that keep your car in control and on the road, struts, chassis, shocks, springs and torsion bars all work together to absorb the impact and energy from bumps, curves, and holes in the road. You may not have thought too much about it, but these parts need to withstand a huge amount of stress over long periods of time. This means they can become subject to wear and fatigue over time.Read More

3 Surprise advantages you didn’t think of when installing a snorkel.

Tuesday, 2 May 2017 2:19:06 pm Australia/Sydney

A Snorkel for your 4wd will be one of the modifications on the top of your priority list if you plan of taking the road less traveled and getting the most out of your 4wd adventures. Its name is a give away, a 4wd snorkels function is to improve off-road performance by lifting the air intake to roof height making for safer water crossings in deeper water. What is often forgotten though is that there are other less talked about advantages that come with the installation of a 4wd snorkel.

Surprise Advantage 1

Cooler denser air

When you install a snorkel you effectively lift the air intake of your 4wd from the front of the engine bay facing forward to roof height. The air up higher will be cooler, and cooler air means denser air. Why is cool dense air an important performance enhancer? Weather your 4wd runs on diesel or petrol one of the most important factors to engine performance is the air/fuel mixture your engine uses to create combustion and guess what, cool dense air will combust more efficiently! Meaning a more efficient better running engine.

Surprise Advantage 2

Less dust

Anyone that has driven off-road in Australian will be all too familiar with dust, red dust, and lots of it. Fitting a snorkel to your 4wd will not only make water more difficult to enter, but also greatly reduce the quantities of dust that would otherwise pass into your air intake. This should reduce wear and tear on your 4wd engine, especially on your air filter that wears the brunt of this dust. This means savings on maintenance and a longer life for your filter.

Surprise Advantage 3

Air ram effect

A snorkel will also include an ‘air ram’ the air ram sits at the top of the snorkel it creates a ram effect improving engine performance, it also separates any moisture in the air by passing air through a 90 degree bend keeping moisture out of your precious engine.

So there you have it, a 4wd snorkel, more than just an upgrade for water crossings.

Here at Sunshine Coast Vehicle Accessories we have a huge range of parts to optimize your 4wd experience. If you have any questions or would like to see our full range of products contact us, or come in to our showroom, we have experts on call to answer any questions and assist in any 4wd needs you might have!

What are Weight Distribution Systems?

Monday, 31 October 2016 1:06:31 pm Australia/Sydney

What are Weight Distribution Systems?

Weight distribution systems are designed to assist with the restoration of the original geometry of the tow vehicle as close as possible to that which it was prior to the coupling of the trailer. It does this by transferring the weight from the rear of the towing vehicle to the front wheels of the towing vehicle and the wheels of the towed trailer.

Van fit outs – Wall & Floor Lining

Wednesday, 26 October 2016 8:19:10 am Australia/Sydney

SCVA has been creating van fitouts for the last 20 years, and the range of options has expanded to become extremely customisable. From wall and floor linings to rollout drawers and everything in between we can customise your van so that it works more efficently for your needs.

Wall and floor lining offers protection for the cargo space in your van - in the long run, keeping the resale value - in the short term, creating a smooth even surface to build from, reducing road noise and protecting exterior panels from dents made by freight.

There are a range of options to suit all budgets and trade requirements.

Rubber Mats
An inexpensive lining material, available in vehicle specific shapes and sizes. Easily fitted by the driver, offering a nonslip surface for cargo and simply roll up and discard when changing vehicles.

Ply Lining
Basic ply lining comes in pine look, 6mm for walls and 12mm flooring, cut to size.

Pre-cut high quality 6mm wall lining
Comes with a light grey vinyl coat and a 9mm profile cut ply floor with anti-slip coating.
The wall lining is also available in precut panels to line the inside panel of sliding doors and bulkheads.

Mesh wall panels
Mesh panels can be installed on the inside walls to protect exterior panels from freight dents and glass windows from being broken. Also valuable for courier vans and taxi trucks to tie loose items and stop goods moving in transport

Carpet
Adding a layer of quality marine grade carpet takes away the commercial look of van cargo space. It also adds an extra protective layer over the ply saving it from unsightly dents & scratches.

Spray Lining
Tough spray on coating can be applied over ply or straight onto existing vehicle contours.  It provides a smooth scratch resistant finish impervious to fluids.  Excellent for animal carrying fitouts, also ideal for painter etc.

Storage Ideas for Tradies

Thursday, 10 December 2015 10:58:11 pm Australia/Sydney

A surprising number of successful businesses have been started out of people's homes. From Tech firms like Design Crowd to the famous or infamous Martha Stewart brand proof that success as an entrepreneur is still possible abounds and according to Forbes Magazine, Australia is one of the world's best places for a start-up.

What does this have to do with Tradies and trucks? Simple Tradesmen are natural entrepreneurs. Most, even if they work for someone else, do side jobs to help pay the bills. Besides the fact, that when you are working in the trades you are not being paid just for what you do, but for what you know how to do and the personal skill you bring to the job.

So what separates the 'tried to make it's' from the 'made it crowd' in many cases it comes down to one word organization. Yes, you need to keep your paperwork straight and operate your business as a business, but you also need to stay organized on the job.

As the old saying goes "Time is money" and if you are fumbling around trying to find the right parts or tools you are wasting both. Investing in the proper cargo accessories and racks will keep your jobs running smooth and lower your frustration level.

Here are three items that will help you keep your Tradie Ute,Van or Truck orderly, neat and safe.

Van Shelving

Regardless of your trade, van shelving is a must. It keeps all those little parts and tools where they are supposed to be and you can lay your hands on them easily. No more rummaging around trying to find that one small piece you know is there somewhere.

Racks

If you ever have to carry longer items like pipes, boards, conduits, etc. Then you are going to need a good rack system for your truck or Ladder Rack for your van. One, it looks professional. Perception is reality, so put on a good face. Two, for safety it is a must and three, in some localities it is mandatory.

Rollout Drawers

Available for vans or under tray mounting rollout drawers are perfect for those whose work involves a lot of trips back and forth or who have trouble climbing in and out, up and down. Instead of having to climb into the van or up onto the tray, simple pull the drawer out and then slide it back in. Their roller bearing runners make them a dream.

If you have ever dreamed of having your own business and working for yourself or even better having others do the work while you play boss, invest in the proper storage equipment to keep your work organized and flowing smoothly. Organization is the first step toward success.

Suncoast Vehicle Accessories - Suncoast Towbars can supply and fit many standard options as well as customised vehicle storage solutions.

4 Wheel Drive Accessories to Make Your Camping More Enjoyable

Monday, 7 December 2015 10:56:46 pm Australia/Sydney

Those that haven't tried camping just don't realize how much fun it can be. There are few things in this world more refreshing to the soul than spending a little time in the bush, getting back in touch with our selves and basking in Mother Nature's glow.

Of course, different people have their own ideas of exactly what primitive living is. For us great out door types, though, we understand that the farther we get from the city lights the grander the heaven's view becomes.

To reach these secluded spots in the outback and be assured of getting back takes a special kind of person and a special vehicle. A stock 4wd is a good place to start, but if you want to rip across the dunes, play in the mud and then spend a relaxing evening telling lies with your mates or snuggling under the stars with your lass you are going to want to add a few niceties to your rig.

Here are a few suggestions for you to start with.

Bull Bars, Loop Bars, Nudge Bars
Regardless of whether you are going to be rolling off-road into the back country or just riding on what passes for roads in some areas, your front end is going to be the most exposed to damage. Frontal protection is a must.

Installing a proper set of bars will not only protect and enhance your recreational vehicle's good looks they can save you a load of heartache. A tire is simple enough to change if it blows, but catch a stone or stick in your radiator and you're done for the day with a long walk home.

Snorkels
We all know how fickle the weather can be on The Suncoast or all over Australia for that matter. Rains can hit hard and rivers rise fast. Adding a snorkel on your truck will help you make sure you can make it home without worry or if you are the stalwart type get where you're going with ease.

Lights
Does this one need any explanation? Have you ever had too many lights or been able to see too well.

Canopies
This may seem kind of frivolous to the rougher set, but the entire point of camping is to relax and have fun. Adding a canopy to your rig will give you protection from the harsh sun, the chilly dew and those sudden showers that can appear out of nowhere. Sound like a lot more fun than being cold and wet or baked like a Meat Pie.

Camping almost always leads to good times. Properly outfitting your your 4wd before heading into the bush will make safer and even more fun.

Breaking News

Monday, 12 October 2015 10:44:52 pm Australia/Sydney

The CompactIQ™ is one of Hayman Reese’s most sophisticated brake control units. This proportional brake control unit has been developed to make it both easier & less intrusive to install and provide the driver with greater control in braking situations.

The CompactIQ™ discreetly displays only two gauges. The dial and LED indicator can fit and be mounted in a spare switch panel rather than through the main dashboard or centre consol. The brake controller is stored out of sight behind the vehicle’s dashboard - with only the control dials showing on the dash.

The Output Control Dial has two functions. It lets you set the minimum braking force of the trailer (otherwise known as the ‘Boost’ – a unique feature) and provides an over-ride function for additional braking power on the trailer when required. The over-ride force can be set by the user and is activated by pressing and holding the Output Control Dial. The “Boost” feature gives users the ability to apply more or less braking power when necessary. By adjusting the Boost on the Output Control Dial, users can choose the minimum amount of braking force to apply when the brake pedal is first pressed. For heavier caravans and trailers more Boost can be used for greater braking control. This feature is unique to the CompactIQ™ as a remote mounted brake control unit.

Sway Controllers

Monday, 12 October 2015 10:43:47 pm Australia/Sydney

Sway Controllers

When travelling with a trailer, strong cross winds and wind buffets from large trucks and buses can result in unnerving trailer sway. A sway controller is designed to be used in conjunction with a WDH and prevents trailer sway by retarding the pivotal movement between the tow hitch and the trailer. There are two models, the Friction Sway Controller and the Dual Cam Sway Controllers.

Please Note - if your trailer sways without the external forces mentioned above, check that your trailer is loaded and set up correctly. Sway controllers should not be used to counter sway caused by trailer incorrectly loaded or setup.

Disclaimer - Please note these are only tips and suggestions. Further professional advice must be sought before towing.

Suncoast Vehicle Accessories - Suncoast Towbars can help you with sway control requirements. We supply and fit.
